Brief Description

The project aims to create a pedagogical method for nursing students, within the scope of the prevention and control of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HCAIs), through the introduction and implementation of the InovSafeCare Model [Intellectual Output 1], during their academic training.

The InovSafeCare Model will help nursing students to develop competencies to control and prevent HCAIs, through critical thinking and decision-making stimulation, promoting the necessary skills for planning, implementation and assessment of nursing care, sensitive to societal challenges, which ensures that care provided are safe, effective and of high quality.

This innovative pedagogical model will also contribute to the development of a creative and entrepreneurial spirit among young nursing students, encouraging them to analyze the current realities of the clinical contexts where their training takes place and to design innovative solutions in the area of control and prevention of HCAIs.

In the scope of this pedagogical model, an Interactive E-book: InovSafeCare E-Book [Intellectual Output 2] will be produced. A MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) will provide an innovative and comprehensive approach to the InovSafeCare Model assumptions, as well as good practice guidelines focusing on the ten key-areas of HCAIs prevention and control previously delineated. In addition, as an innovative resource in a digital era, access will be made to the interactive simulation scenarios created, which can be used by teachers and nursing students to acquire and develop their competencies in this field.

InovSafeCare Community [Intellectual Output 3] will allow the diffusion and continuity of the project, guaranteeing the existence of an initial core of peers that will develop new pedagogical activities in this thematic field after the conclusion of the project. giving sustainability to the entrepreneurial perspective underlying the entire project. The InovSafeCare Community is free and open to any nursing or health care professional and is meant to attract new members to the community by recurrent scientific and pedagogical events. Furthermore, new members can join the community through its official website [www.inovsafecare.eu], in which all interested parties be informed about the latest news of the project, breakthrough scientific discoveries in this field as well as have access to all pedagogical materials produced.

General objectives

  1. To develop the InovSafeCare model, comprised of innovative pedagogical practices for nursing students focused on developing their competencies in HCAIs prevention and control;
  2. Educate nursing students and related key-figures such as teachers, healthcare professionals and mentors on how to implement the InovSafecare model;
  3. To foster entrepreneurial skills in nursing students, enabling them to conceptualize innovative solutions that tackle challenges in the field of HCAIs prevention and control and antimicrobial resistance;
  4. To develop collaborative networks between higher educational institutions, health institutions and national technological enterprises;
  5. Create conditions for the continuity of the project, disseminating the InovSafeCare Model.
